This season of Strictly Come Dancing may have come to an end but there’s one thing we know for sure: the show catapulted TV personality Helen Skelton into the spotlight.

The 39-year old didn’t make it to the final but her routines with Gorka Marquez, her dance partner, did impress judges and viewers.

Celebrities even took to social media to praise the presenter throughout the series, with The Last Leg’s Adam Hills tweeting: “Just so blown away by @HelenSkelton. How is it possible that one person can excel at everything she does. It’s a pleasure to be with her. She deserves every accolade that comes her way.”

Dan Walker is also a contestant on Strictly 2021 tweeted: “Helen is so good, Gorka is a genius… her mum and dad were wonderful on the #Strictly film… just give them all the glitterball right now.”

Helen Skelton is who?

Helen Skelton is a TV personality from Carlisle, Cumbria.

She was born July 19, 1983. Her family lived on a Kirkby Thore dairy farm. After her childhood, she attended the Cumbria Institute for the Arts to earn a BA degree in journalism.

“I was brought up on a farm on the edge of The Lake District so life was always outdoors,” Skelton told Blacks In an interview conducted earlier this year.

Skelton lives now in Yorkshire. However, she lived for several years in France with her husband Richie Myler who was a former rugby player. He moved to Catalan Dragons as a team member in 2015.

“I didn’t speak the language and I felt so isolated that I used to go into the local tourist office just to talk to someone who could speak English,” Skelton told You Magazine 2018

“The loneliness was crushing even though the French wives and girlfriends would invite me on their nights out, which was kind.

“I would try to keep up by laughing and nodding – then somebody would ask if I understood and I would say no. They thought I was bonkers.”

Myler Skelton and Louis Skelton share three children. Elsie, Louis and Ernie are seven and five years respectively. Four months after Elsie was born, they split in April 2022.

What are Helen Skelton’s biggest personal achievements?

Skelton holds a few personal honors. Skelton was the second woman to complete the Namibia Ultra Marathon in 2009, a 78-mile race through Namibian desert. She finished it in less than 24 hours.

She said it at the time. BBC Newsround: “It was a gruelling experience, but one I’ll never forget. There were tough times but also amazing times.”

Skelton, a qualified instructor of tap dancing, completed the London Marathon three-times in 2009 and 2014.

For Sport Relief, she kayaked the entire length the Amazon River. It took her just over a month to complete the 2,010-mile solo trip. She also achieved two Guinness World Record entries: the longest solo kayak journey and the longest kayak ride in 24 hours.

After the adventure, Skelton published her debut novel, a book for young adults called Amy Wild: Amazon SummerIn 2015,

Skelton, a Sport Relief exclusive, was the first person in 2012 to reach the South Pole on a bicycle. The bicycle was made specifically for the trip and had eight-inch tires.

What TV shows has Helen Skelton appeared on?

Skelton started her career in the media as an extra for Cut It and Coronation Street while still at school. After briefly working in public relations, Skelton switched to journalism and became a BBC Radio Cumbria Breakfast Presenter in 2005.

After working at Newsround, Skelton then became a presenter on Blue Peter in 2008 before becoming a presenter of live FA Women’s Super League in 2013 for BT Sport.

Skelton was the first Countryfile presenter in 2008. She has presented episodes every since. Skelton also participated in the Christmas special editions of Strictly 2012
