Hatton defeats Lawrence County teams

Jan. 17—HATTON — The Hatton boys and girls basketball teams went unbeaten against other Lawrence County opponents this season.

Both teams beat East Lawrence Monday. The boys won with 60 points and the girls with 67.49.

Although the season has been more balanced, Kahne Little proved that he is still the star player who scored more than 20 points per contest a season ago.

Hatton junior finished the game with 22 points.

Justin Henley, Hornets coach, said that “he shot it well” “We continue to go as offensively as he does. Although he’s had some recent games in which he had to shoot more shots than usual, tonight he was there.

East Lawrence suffered another loss in tight games where the Eagles were struggling to close.

Baine Garner, East Lawrence coach, stated that “we have to eliminate unforced turnovers” and “quick shots.” “I thought we guarded well tonight but we struggled with rebounding,” said Baine Garner, East-Lawrence coach.

Coleman Garner scored 11. PJ Head was the Eagles’ leading scorer with 18 points.

Hatton girls have dominant second half

After trailing East Lawrence 13 points at halftime the Hornets outscored East Lawrence 47-17 in the second period.

Hatton coach Erika Leslie said that she just told East Lawrence that she wanted it more then (our players). “I felt we were being lazy. I didn’t want us to take another step back after making several progresses in the past few games.

“Credit to the them, they really responded during the second half.”

Brianna Oliva led the Hornets scoring 17 points. Kailyn Quintals and Eva Armstead each finished with 12.

Hannah Hill was East Lawrence’s leader with 15 points, while Jordynbeck added 10.

Lacrissa Martin, East Lawrence coach said that “Overall I thought we played great,” “This program is a step up from last year.”
