Stanford beats Oregon State to win the Pac-12’s first win, 67-46

STANFORD, Calif. (AP) — Spencer Jones and Michael Jones each scored 18 points and Stanford broke through at the defensive end to earn its first Pac-12 Conference win, knocking off Oregon State, 67-46 on Thursday night.

The Cardinal took a 31-22 lead at intermission. However, the Beavers battled back to take the second half. Dexter Akanno’s layup and 3-pointers by Glenn Taylor Jr. and Tyler Bilodeau helped them get within one minute of the end. Maxime Raynaud, Harrison Ingram, and Spencer Jones each went to the basket for layups. Spencer Jones also made a 3. The Cardinal led by double digits when Raynaud nailed a 13:21 shot and cruised home.

Stanford (6-12, 1-7 Pac-12), had lost seven consecutive games to begin the conference season. The win ended a five-game losing streak.

Spencer Jones made 4 of 8 shots from long distance while Michael Jones made 4 of 6. Ingram was able to finish with eight rebounds and six assists. Michael Jones hit 4 of 6. Raynaud scored 12 points and had six boards. Stanford was able to hit 26 of 58 points from the field (44.8%) and the Beavers were able to shoot on 14 of 41 shots (34.1%), 7 of 21 from the distance.

Stanford hosts Oregon Saturday, while Oregon State plays at Cal Sunday.
