Neil Young He is remembering his bandmate David Crosby.
The Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young member penned a heartfelt tribute to Crosby — who died this week at the age of 81.
Young, who was 77 years old, wrote: “David has passed, but his music lives.” Neil Young Archives website. David was the soul of CSNY. His voice and energy were the core of our band. His great songs represented what we believed, and it was always fun to play together.

Young said, “Almost Cut My Hair” and “Dejavu”, among many other great songs he composed were amazing to jam on and Stills was a lot of fun as he kept us going.” Young said that Graham and Young’s duet spot were a highlight in many of our shows.
Young and Crosby may have had a complicated marriage over the years but Young chose to reflect on their many great times, especially the early years.
“Crosby was an extremely supportive friend in my early years, when we shared a lot of our experiences together. He said that David was the catalyst for many things. Jan and Django and their son and wife, my heart goes out. Many, many thanks. David, I appreciate your spirit and songs. The best memories are mine!

Still, the duo have a hit-making history in their past, dating back to when Young joined Crosby, Stills, & Nash in 1970 for their Déjà Vu LP. 1999 was their final album as a supergroup of four. Looking forward.

Crosby’s passing was reacted by The Beach Boys co-founder, who shared via Twitter a photo of Crosby and him chatting at an event. “I don’t even know what to write except to say that it was a terrible day.” I’m heartbroken Wilson wrote that he was excited to share the story of David Crosby. “David was a remarkable talent. He was a great singer/songwriter. A wonderful person. I’m at a complete loss for words. Love & Mercy to David’s family and friends. Love, Brian.”
Stephen Stills and Graham Nash also paid tribute to Crosby with statements — with Stills telling Deadline He was “without doubt a giant of music”
“I saw a quote in the paper this morning that Gustav Mahler had written. It stopped me for a second: ‘Death, on placid cats’ paws, entered our room. I should have known there was something up.
David and me fought quite a bit over the years, but they were mostly glancing blows which left us both numb. Stills stated that he was at peace with me. He was a true genius musician and his musical sensibilities were unsurpassed. As our voices soared towards the sun, he was the glue that held us all together. “I am deeply saddened by his passing, and will miss him beyond measure.”
Crosby was a person Nash chose to remember for the “pure joy” of the music they created together, the sound that we discovered with each other, and the deep friendship that we shared over the many long years. Instagram post.
It is with deep sadness that I learn that David Crosby, my friend, has died. He wrote that while people often focus on the difficulties in our relationship, what really matters to David and me is the pure joy we had creating music together, the sounds we created, and the deep friendship we shared over many years.
David was fearless in life as well as in music. He left behind an immense legacy of talent and personality. His beautiful music is a testament to his thoughts, passion, and heart. These are the important things. His wife Jan, Django, his son and all the people he touched throughout this world are my deepest sympathies.
