Marcus Smart collides with Derrick White, causing a neck injury that causes him to leave the game quickly.

Boston Celtics guard Derrick White suffered a neck sprain during the first quarter of action in Boston’s Saturday night tilt against the Charlotte Hornets. He was not to be seen again in the game.

White reached for the loose ball. Marcus Smart ran past him. White was knocked to the ground by the inadvertent collision. White was taken to the locker room and given what appeared to be a concussion test. However, he was later ruled out of any future activities.

White has emerged as one of Boston’s most effective defenders. He’s also been a solid starter for head coach Joe Mazzulla. White has played in 36 of 43 games, including tonight’s game.

NBC Sports Boston’s Chris Forsberg tweeted out Here’s a replay of what happened. It’s not particularly violent, but watch at your own discretion.
