Robert Saleh confirms that there are coaching positions for OC, OL and WR

Robert Saleh, the New York Jets’ head coach, confirmed Thursday to reporters that Mike LaFleur has left as an offensive coordinator to pursue other opportunities. Saleh confirmed that there are coaching positions available at the offensive line and wide receiver.

Saleh indicated that LaFleur was contacted by other league teams. The Jets will let LaFleur explore those opportunities. Saleh said the Jets “felt like it was in everyone’s best interest” to let LaFleur go after those other potential positions.

Saleh confirmed that the Jets will be seeking new coaches for their wide receivers and offensive line positions. The Jets are parting ways with offensive line coach/run game coordinator John Benton while Miles Austin remains suspended for his violating the league’s gambling rules for coaches. Austin is appealing the suspension.

Their assistant defensive coach will be another position that the Jets need to fill. Per ESPN’s Rich Cimini, Greg Scruggs will not be returning to the Jets in 2023. After just one season, he will be leaving the team.
