Tigers land big transfer targets on defensive line

Head coach Hugh Freeze’s big run in the transfer portal continues.

Justin Rogers, a transfer prospect, announced Thursday that he will transfer from Kentucky to the Tigers for the 2023 season. Rogers will have Auburn eligibility for two years.

Rogers enjoyed his best year in 2022 with the Kentucky Wildcats, making 36 tackles and grabbing half a sack. He entered the portal on Jan. 3 and has been busy since then, taking visits with Alabama, LSU and Auburn, but he eventually committed to the Plains and becomes yet another high-profile transfer target for Hugh Freeze — Auburn is currently No. 4 in 247Sports’ transfer portal rankings, sitting just behind Lincoln Riley’s USC, Deion Sanders’ Colorado and Mike Norvell’s Florida State. The Tigers are the highest-ranked SEC team as a result, so it will be interesting to see how the team’s new contributors will stand up against Auburn’s 2023 schedule.

Rogers won’t be playing his former team in his first year with the Tigers, as Auburn’s SEC East opponent is set to be Vanderbilt in 2023. While there won’t be a revenge game, Rogers will have plenty of time to prove himself and raise his draft stock while he’s on the roster.
